DH: Abilene Dems clean Loop 707

Abilene, Jan. 8 - Yesterday a group of 15 dedicated Taylor County Democrats gathered at the Flying J at exit 277 off I-20 in Tye, Texas, and cleaned up their two miles of Loop 707 north of the freeway. A group picture was taken after lunch, left, road crew after lunchincluding (l-r) Sarah Spier, Stan & Willys Treanor, Allen Glenn, Dave Haigler, Sharon Norman, John Pettit, Jeff Beal, Alice Spier & Anna Vedro (click picture to enlarge, password is haiglerpix if requested). Not pictured were the photographer, Roger Spier, and those who left early, Dave Bach, Jewel Halford, and Frank & Vivian Sayre.

"This was the biggest haul every," said Roger Spier, club president, "and I appreciate everyone's hard work."

"This was the first time we were able to do it all in one day," said Jewel Halford, referring to past cleanups that took two outings to complete.

"Democrats clean up," said a t-shirt sported by Dave Haigler, listing major candidates in the Democratic primary election for March 7 -- Chris Bell & Bob Gammage (governor), Barbara Radnofsky (senate), Robert Ricketts (congress), David Van Os (attorney general) and Mel Hailey (state rep.).

A brisket lunch was enjoyed by all behind the Haiglers' RV, with Roger's brisket-rub recipe and Dave's tree-stump smoke.
