FORT WORTH, Texas -- In a ceremony filled with religious references, Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill at a church school gymnasium Sunday that imposes more limits on late-term abortions and requires minors to get written parental consent for abortions, and a resolution placing a ban on same-sex marriages on the November ballot for a constitutional amendment.

The signing came as several hundred demonstrators -- some opposed to the signing of a bill on church property and some opposed to discrimination against gays and lesbians -- protested outside.

Let's see now....The Republican legislators were able to vote in a pension for themselves for life of about $35,000/yr,....... Last year they were able to re-district (so they could maintain control)....they've drastically cut funds to the CHIPS program..so we have the most uninsured children in the nation, and we are 47th in SAT scores. These fine caring men/women weren't able to vote in an education bill this session......but I read in the NYTimes that when Gov Perry got up to speak at the controversial bill-signing event at the Evangelical School, he said: "I'm confused where God is: He's everywhere. If we did this in a parking lot of Wal-Mart, God would be there."

I have 2 comments:(not original.and I'm preaching to the choir! :-)
1. The Republicans only seem to care about themselves and the unborn. Once you hit the air..if you aren't one of "them" you're on your own, kid!!

2. If God is TRULY everywhere, then no place should be tax exempt!
(I thought the reason these places were given a tax break was because they were "giving back....." How many Health Clinics and Soup Kitchens do you see in these huge places of worship springing up all over the place??? They just want your money!!!) It's time to re-think this!!

Alice has some cogent points.

However, my perspective is that government gets into a real bucket of worms trying to regulate or tax religion.

Shit-kicking contests get shit all over all participants.

You're right about that, Dave!
So let's treat everyone equally. No "exemptions"....or is it exceptions" :-)
Maybe this should be a straight up or down vote with the general public at a November Election....along with the pensions and raises the legislators give themselves! It should be something WE decide to give them...... After all they are supposed to be working for us.....and these are our Tax dollars!
